What you need to know about the HEMMI Foundation
Foundation description
The HEMMI Foundation is a non-profit private foundation based in Therwil BL and active in the research regions of Switzerland. It promotes outstanding research projects with the annual award of the HEMMI Prize, which is endowed twice with CHF 25,000.
The Hemmi Foundation goes back to the founding couple, Dr. phil. Hans Martin Hemmi, chemist, and his wife, Mrs Ruth Hemmi, from Binningen BL. It has existed since 1980 and is dedicated to the promotion of medical research in general and cancer research in particular. In 2009, the Foundation’s purpose was expanded to the extent that significant successes or weighty works are now periodically awarded the so-called HEMMI Prize.
Each spring, the announcement for the HEMMI Prize is published in the Swiss Medical Journal and on the Internet. In addition, the announcement is sent to the dean’s offices of the universities for distribution to interested parties. After the submission deadline, the submitted projects are assessed by three experts (one Foundation Board member with medical expertise, two external medical experts) and the best projects are awarded at a joint meeting.
The current Foundation Board members are:
Simon Rosenthaler, President of the Foundation Board lic. iur., attorney-at-law
Basil Zimmermann, Member of the Foundation Board trustee
Christina Jeanneret-Gris, Member of the Foundation Board Prof. Dr. med.
